"Sport, properly directed, develops character, makes a man courageous, a generous loser, and a gracious victor; it refines the senses, gives intellectual penetration, and steels the will to endurance. It is not merely a physical development then. Sport, rightly understood, is an occupation of the whole man, and while perfecting the body as an instrument of the mind, it also makes the mind itself a more refined instrument for the search and communication of truth and helps man to achieve that end to which all others must be subservient, the service and praise of his Creator."
Pope Pius XII, "Sport at the Service of the Spirit," July 29, 1945

"A great pianist doesn’t run around the piano or do push ups with the tips of his fingers. To be great, he plays the piano. He plays all his life and being a great footballer is not about running, push-ups or physical work generally. The best way to be a great player is to play football."
Jose Mourinho, Chelsea head coach, March 2005

Coaches Corner

Check the CYSL website at for the latest schedules and reschedules.  It is a good practice to check the website prior to each game as your game may be rescheduled for things other than weather cancellations.  Game cancellations should be posted on the CYSL website by 3:30pm weekdays and 7:30am on Saturdays.

Equipment Needs:
For all equipment needs please contact our Equipment Manager, Shawn Simon.

Player Passes:
Please contact our registrar, Rick Walsh, for replacement player passes.  All U9 and above players are required to have a laminated player pass with photo attached.  Coaches must present the player passes to the referee prior to the start of the match.  U7 and U8 player passes are not handed out -- our registrar keeps them on file.  If a U7 or U8 team plays in a tournament, please request the player passes from the registrar.

Game Cards:
All U9 and above coaches must present a filled out game card to the refere prior to the start of the match.  If you are the home team you are required to present a game card.  If you are the visiting team, you are required to have a filled out adhesive card with your player names and numbers on them.  U7 and U8 coaches do not have game cards.  You will receive the game cards and adhesive cards in your season's packet.

It is against the Laws of the Game for anyone to challenge the referee's judgment
.  This is considered dissent and is subject to a warning, yellow card, red card, send off, and dismissal from the field.  Please talk to your players, coaches and parents about this Law and know your parent and coach's behavior or dissent will get you, the "head coach", carded.  No matter how wrong you may feel the referee is -- do not dissent at or around the game field!  Remember, coach dissent towards our referees teach our players and parents to do the same thing.
